Woven in Net by Irene Trapote
Irene Trapote is a multidisciplinary artist and independent researcher from Asturias. Her use of net weaving within textile craftsmanship emerges from research on traditional women's trades, specifically that of the rederas—women who mend and weave fishing nets along the Cantabrian coast.
This technique is at risk of disappearing due to a severe lack of generational succession, as these women face precarious working conditions that discourage new artisans from continuing the trade.
